    Good Morning

I picked up a cute little 4" plate marked "Gibo Bav".
I have researched, I have asked other places online - no one seems to know what this mark means.

    Does anyone here know?

    Thank you!!!

    Welcome, Ms H!

If you check (Google) for "Gibo Bavaria" you'll find some!

I was coming to say Bavaria as well.
Where the arrow is pointing, are those letters? Might be the company or pattern name.

The edge is call reticulated. Might help you search.

Oh and welcome to the board.

    Hello

They are just dots but 2 look like crescent moons.
    I will keep looking.
Googling Bavarian and reticulated did bring a lot - thanks for the tip - but I can't find anything with "gibo" infront of it.

I was just curious to learn its history :)

Thanks for pointing me in a good direction - I will keep digging :)

Ms H, Did you Google "Gibo Bavaria" - WITH THE QUOTE MARKS - as I suggested before? I just did it again & came up with a few results...

I did it just now again. And I did see a few results from Uruguay but no information on the mark. Just a couple sites with items for sale. :)

Your picture is too small for me to see.
Does it appear that the mark is over the glaze and not under?

There is the possibility that this is an importer's mark and not the maker's mark.
Arnalt used a similar crown, not identical to yours. They were a large import company

Get a magnifying glass and look at the flowers - do you see dots?

The more I look at your plate, the more I think it may be from Japan and not Bavaria. The porcelain doesn't look fine enough. Your plate appears thick, not light.
However, your pictures are too small for me to see much.

Ms H, I'm thinking that maybe Cluttered has something there with the "importer" idea... You are absolutely right - ALL of the GIBO BAV stuff I see is in Uruguay!

Maybe an importer in Montevideo or some such? Hmmm...

Oh I'm sorry about the pics. I'm not sure why are showing up small. They were huge on my monitor.

I'm having a hard time deciding if the mark is above or below the glaze. I feel the texture very slightly. Would it be something I could feel if its below the glaze?

The flowers in the front. I would say definitely a transferred design. The flowers/leaves do have some dots but I thought it was just part of the pattern. Looking at it closer it appears the pattern was cut because the bottom where the blue flowers are, the blue flower is incomplete. Further to the left of it is an incomplete leafe that lines up perfectly. There is also a barely noticeable shadow that runs across. The top of the floral pattern appears to have been more carefully cut along the flowers. Hmm I didn't notice any of that before.

I used to never care about older things but now that I'm getting older I seem to appreciate the older things more. And while this plate likely has no real value I am still fascinated by how it was made.

The plate itself is not very thick well at least not to me.

My children stole my ruler but the thickness of the rim is very close to the thickness of a US Nickel
