Offered to actively participating , well-known members. We’ll see what the situation is Sunday evening. Free, really cheap, poorly packed shipping.

Soft cover Single subject Sotheby’s auction catalog, 1997
A Superb Pair of Louis XIV Silver Table Stands
    10 1/2” by 8 1/4”

The complete set weighed over 84 kg (185lbs), was made in 1709 in Lille by Elie Pacot. There are brief essays on the silversmith, the regulation of metal standards, and the problems in amassing enough silver to complete the work. The provenance is particularly interesting since there were very few people who could afford such a large table setting. The catalog includes a discussion of the Surtout de Table and its use, and how the parts have been dispersed over time.

Louis XIV (and earlier) French silver is particularly rare because the monarchy regularly required silver to be melted down to help finance a never ending stream of wars.

These survive because they were in England.

    Beautiful illustrations.

Wouldn't know what to do with it if I had it - either the catalog or the table whatsits. Other than send them to auction of course!

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Thanks for that. Who knows? Somebody may want it, along with the free, cheap, poorly-packed shipping. :) (Funny!)
