    I have had this piece hanging around for some time now but have never been able to find one similar. I am actually not sure the 2 pieces started life together even though the jar seems like a good fit. :confused::confused:

    There is no cut-out to keep a spoon inside the jar & the lid fits tightly.

    I was hoping one of our members across the pond might recognize what its intended use was or could at least give me some guesses. :happy::happy:

    The jar measures 5 3/4" to the top, 4 5/8" to the side edge, 2 5/8" across the top opening & 2 5/8" across the bottom. The stand measures 9 7/8" to the top & is 3" across the opening.

    It has an impressed EPNS on the bottom but no other marks. The jar is not marked but is well-made with a polished bottom.

    The stopper has a pontil mark on the bottom & is faceted around the top edges.

    Thank you for any & all advice or opinions!! :happy: :kiss::kiss:

    Just a WAG, but I'm thinking it may be a horseradish jar.

    It's a pickle jar, mid to late 19th century. Common in the UK, holder may well be original.

    Agreed. I've got one: they have a separate spoon which hangs off the frame. If I can find it I'll post a photo.

    Thank you all!! :happy::happy: :kiss::kiss:

    I would have never guessed a pickle jar. :rolleyes::rolleyes:

    I do not think there ever was a place to hang a utensil from the frame because there are no marks anywhere on the frame where one would have been. :happy::happy:

    No one's mentioned it, but EPNS stands for "Electro-plated Nickle Silver."
