Nope, no manganese glasses this time :D

A few weeks ago I bought this pince-nez
    image6.jpeg
    with this pouch
    image8.jpeg
of P.W. Hiele, Purveyor to the court, in Utrecht (the Netherlands)
A pair of P.W. Hiele's glasses are included in the collection of the Central Museum of Utrecht https://collectie.centraalmuseum.nl/details/collection/15850
And in this short 1917 vid, you can see his store in the background :)

And yesterday, I bought this pince-nez
    image10.jpeg
    in this very worn case
    image13.jpeg
Only when I was editing the pics to upload them here, I noticed there is a logo/text on the case. Unfortunately it's too faded to read the name, but it seems to say it's an optician in Amsterdam.

Any thoughts on how old these glasses are?

And, together with this pince-nez, I also bought this lorgnette (or is this called a lancetier?)
    image4.jpeg image3.jpeg image2.jpeg
    also with a pouch
    image1.jpeg image0.jpeg
    1920s/30s?

I picked these 18k French pince-nez a few years ago for $28. Can’t sell them now without them getting scrapped.

i've got these that test as gold, though my gold buyer wanted nothing to do with them as they are unmarked and reckons they are probaby just filled, but took the gold right down on a test, there are also a few (of the same) i've seen online where some state gold and some don't

    are yours marked anund ?

The glasses of the first pince-nez are probably the best match for my eyes, but those glasses are the least comfortable to use.
The 2nd pince-nez is a bit better in use, but it's only good for reading at a close distance, as anything at 20 cm and beyond becomes a blur.
The glasses of the lorgnette are somewhere in between those two, and it's easy to use, so I guess I'll be using the lorgnette

Nope, no marks on mine. I even used the lorgnette, to make sure I wasn't missing it due to poor eyesight :hilarious:

I have old glasses I use for indoors, and newer ones for driving. For reading I most often just take them off. For sun... I got goes-overs at estate sales for a buck a pair. They're meant for people who've had catact surgery and have side protection. It beats paying $500 for sunglasses that I'd have to remember to change out to go indoors, and this insurance doesn't cover.

Worn contacts since I was a kid. My glasses are hi index and they are still coke bottles that warp my facial appearance. I'm so used to the contacts that wearing the glasses give me a headache because I forget I have to move my whole head and not just my eyeballs. :watching:

I have a handful of pince nez that my grandmother horded from two sides of the family. Includes one with a hook on a chain to go over the ear, a yellow tinted pair and a metal case shaped like Marote's purple lined one.
