Hi all. Picked up this gorgeous thing after almost walking by thinking it just depression glass. Something about it made me look twice, and whenI dinged it and it rang so clear I knew it had to be better. It was hard to capture, but the bottom rim is polished . Czech maybe? Its10 inches wide and 3 1/2 high, any input is always appreciated.

The shape and foot look like Steuben. You say the entire bottom is polished, correct?
I just don't know if they did uranium glass.

Fenton, Cambridge and a few others made the shape with that foot. However, the bottoms wouldn't have been polished.

    I'd start with Steuben.

I could be wrong, but I don't think it is depression glass.
Hopefully someone will come along with the right answer.

    Very pretty find.

How about we call it "Elegant Glass made in the Depression Era". The diamond design is pressed, not cut or engraved. Its' raised above the surface.

It looks like vaseline glass, also known as uranium glass. This was produced during the depression era and used some kind of benign uranium oxide. It glows under a black light. It is very collectible, even if you can't identify the maker or pattern. It's not high end like Steuben, but very saleable.

I wonder if the pattern could be called quilted?? Just a thought I am throwing out there.

    Hi Serendipity,
There is a wonderful difference between Vaseline glass and uranium glass. Vaseline glass is a greenish yellow that glows bright green under black light. Uranium glass also glows under black light BUT it is green or yellow or clear, blue etc. Remember the old adage "If it is green and glows under black light it is NOT vaseline." Most of you are too young to remember Vaseline before the color change in the 1950s of being greenish yellow to the pale yellow color now available.

That was the key word! I think its a "diamond quilted" uranium glass bowl from Imperial glass ! Thank you !
