Featured Gold testing kits

    Apologies if this is in the wrong forum.
    I've got several bits of bent and broken 'gold' I'd like to test. Nothing that I'm going to affect the value of I think.
    I've seen lots of testing kits on eBay. What do you all use?. Any do's or dont's?!
    Can you test for silver too?
