zzzzzzzzsoap (5).JPG zzzzzzzzsoap (7).JPG zzzzzzzzsoap (1).JPG zzzzzzzzsoap (6).JPG zzzzzzzzsoap (4).JPG zzzzzzzzsoap (3).JPG zzzzzzzzsoap (2).jpg I got this soap dish a year ago. It has no markings and I am hoping someone could help me with the maker and the age. It is weighs 10.7oz and I took it to a jeweler and it tested sterling silver, but could not get any information on it. Thank you in advance for your help

Surface testing with acid? Or some other method?

Most likely newer in the last 20-30 years. Silver plate. Probably had a paper label.
    Looks much better cleaned up.

If the Edit is still showing, you can go back to Options and use the delete next to the duplicate pictures.

It has been my experience that when a piece has those rainbow colored tarnished areas, it is likely plate.
    Solid sterling just turns black-ish.
Sometimes when using the acid test, the scrape marks don't penetrate the plating and you get a false positive.

I sincerely doubt that the soap dish without marks is sterling, despite the test. If they did not scratch far enough into the pieces (and I can't see that they did) a shallow test into plated surface will yield a false result.

The other thing to keep in mind. Silver is a very light metal. If your soap dish is at all heavy, it is most definitely plated. You can see how thick it is. I'm sure this has some weight to it
