Any chance this is American? I think German or Scandinavian, but others are not sure. All pine, very thick. Lots of imperial dimensions in the cuts, but some calculations written on boards are in the 1000s.

Hmmm, interesting. It has same construction on drawer as american and the style is late Classical, mid 19th century i would guess. The top & feet looks different though, what's going on with the top?

Another thing i notice, the key holes, they seem to be almost in the center of drawer which would be odd for an american chest, are there locks on drawers?

A lock on top. The other drawers no locks but mortised to one side of hole I guess for turning key to open drawers. so the knobs may be added.

yes, that's what I was thinking. The question I guess is did an immigrant make it in the style. Someone who saw it seems to think the columns and pine species look American. The seller also had the same dilemma.

I think it is made "in the style" Of Biedermeier and looks to have been finished in the style of 1960s furniture refinishing. Lock hardware looks large and decorative, does it function to lock each drawer also?

Agrees, the top & feet are not typical for american mid 19th century classical so i'll guess german/austrian.

This is what you are more likely to see in american mid 19th grain painted Classical chests of drawers with glove/ ditty boxes on top

Sure, almost ANYTHING is possible with american furniture with large immigrant populations and furniture fashions however, i would think it more likely the german/austrian 19th century immigrant would make the chest "american classical" rather than "Biedermeier styled".

I'd say it's a period 19th century chest, just not american, the top & feet just don't work for american. I see "scribe lines" for dovetails on drawer & the bottom of drawer is consistent with 19th century construction, both here and europe.
