plate66.jpg plate55.jpg plate44.jpg plate33.jpg plate22.jpg plate11.jpg I doubt it. Don't know why but I do. Why would someone make a plate out of jade? Measures 8 1/2 inches wide. Thanks for any info!

Jade actually covers a wide range of colors and qualities. The only requirement is that it jade consist of jadeite or nephrite. The most desirable jades are carved into jewelry or small figurines while the less desirable ores are used for larger decorative items. I'm not qualified to make the determination between "more desirable"
and "less desirable" but there may be other on here that are.

Take a look at pictures of green serpentine & see how you think it compares.

Prize for the best answer.:) Yes serpentine.
Very pretty, with a graceful shape, but no great value.
Most jade lookalikes are just that, and there are many of them.

When it comes to the desirability of true jade, it depends on what you are looking for. The following is a generalization, but it gives you an idea:
Collectors of antique Chinese jade prefer nephrite, especially mutton fat jade. Nephrite is the 'Old School' jade, of Chinese scholars and emperors.
The Chinese merchant class, which emerged during the Qing dynasty, prefered Imperial green jadeite jade or the very bright jadeite colours, even if dyed. That kind of jadeite was, and still is, mostly sourced in Burma/Myanmar.
Collectors of Art Deco jewellery prefer bright green jadeite or apple jade, which looks stunning with black onyx or diamonds.
