Green Rock Ashtray

    Any suggestions on the type of stone? Not very convinced that this is nephrite because of all those white spots.

    Maybe alabaster,many were carved in Italy.

    Not as soft as alabaster. Maybe harder than 5.

    There were once commonly carved in onyx

    Look to see if there is any dried blood on it. Seems Ava Gardner "smashed an onyx ashtray" over the head of Howard Hughes after he punched her in the face dislocating her jaw. "‘There was blood on the walls, on the furniture — real blood in the Bloody Marys,’" She thought she had killed him.

    If the color of **that** ashtray was known, what a great sale's pitch that would make for this ashtray. You could add "deadly weapon" to its description! :rolleyes:
