Would anyone be able to help give me an idea of the approximate age of this 20220520_132709.jpg 20220520_132748.jpg 20220520_133014.jpg 20220520_133037.jpg 20220520_133106.jpg 20220520_133652.jpg old jug or pitcher please? I'm not sure if it is earthenware or stoneware (or neither?) Possibly salt glazed? It is 8.5 inches high and 16 inches around the fattest part. Any input or advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for your reply. I had a feeling it was earthenware but couldn't be sure. My grandmother found the jug/pitcher sticking out of the ground in some undergrowth in about 1910. I always loved it as a child and eventually inherited it.

    Gawd! ;)

What part of the world is it in please?

Here, that could be 18th C or even earlier. Earthenware. Lovely fat shape, I bet it feels good. It's utilitarian honest ware.

Hi, it was found in Scotland in about 1910 & has lived with me in England since the 1980s. Yes, it does feel good - I enjoyed handling it to take the photos (hope that doesn"t sound too weird!).

It is beautiful. My mother used to collect pieces like that.

That's interesting. Both Govancroft and Glasgow potteries use a sort of sage green rather a lot. Given where it was found, it may well be 18th then.

You could ask these people: https://www.scottishpotterysociety.org.uk/

Thank you - I will check that site. 18thC would tie in perfectly with the place it was found.
