Greeting!

While doing some online research I came across this forum. I grew up in a used furniture store & enjoyed many antiques from south Louisiana, particularly New Orleans. My father would regularly buy estates from there, reselling most pieces and sometimes putting choice pieces in our home. I really appreciate old furniture and architecture, the style, craftsmanship, wood, design, etc. and am looking forward to gaining some information & wisdom from this forum.

Please share some of your antique hunting stories with your father.

 

Here is one of my earliest memories. My dad had a large box truck with a crude tailgate & a tarp to cover over his finds. One day, he was getting ready to head to New Orleans for a day of junking. He would leave first thing in the morning & get back around dark. This was before I was in school, So I must have been 4 or 5. I wanted to go, but that was out of the question. So, when I had a chance, I climbed into the back of the truck just before he pulled out. We rumbled off down the road and pretty soon someone overtook the truck blowing the horn. Somebody must have spotted me climbing into the truck. I don't remember being fussed at, but mom was more careful watching me from then on. That was 50 years ago.
