Not sure this is the right board, but wasn't real sure where to put my request. Anyhow, I have found an OLD unusual portrait button that I can't identify. I have been told that. by construction, it could be inferred that it is early 19th Century at the latest and perhaps 18th Century in origins. If so, it my have European origins.... but, do not know. I has also been suggested that the bust is that of Charles I, and may be sort of a revival button from the resurgence when in 1799, workmen at St George’s Chapel broke through a wall and accidentally discovered his tomb. Does anybody here have any thoughts about this button? One similar was found in Connecticut last year. Screen Shot 2021-05-13 at 10.20.11 PM.jpg Screen Shot 2021-05-13 at 10.20.47 PM.jpg

Doesn’t look like Lincoln, anymore. Maybe someone can place him.

    Not a coin.
You can see on the reverse where the metal loop or U was fixed, its come away due to corrosion.

Also looks to be letters where I've lightened, but cannot for the life of me figure what they are.....Possible S, R, B, but verrry difficult to see!!

Or one of these national heroes, Egmond and Horne, who started the war of freedom against the Spanish:

Or rather, the Spanish started the war because Egmond and Horne and other nobles stood up for religious freedom.

Think the question was do you know of a coin with the same profile on it? One with the name on it?

To me he looks draped in the classical manner that was used both on figures from antiquity as well as contemporary figures being likened to the notables of old. Could be someone from either camp.

(I see why he looks like he's wearing a ruff, but the textured area does not go all the way around the neck and there looks to be bare skin immediately beneath it.)
