Greetings from a Newcomer

    Greetings to all,
    My wife and I have been antique collectors for over 40 years now. In addition, our parents were also avid collectors. I started out collecting antique whistles and then started on scales. I still have a pretty large collection of scales at this time. My wife collected depression glass ice buckets as well as any type of small box, from snuff to trinket and everything in between. While we still love the "thrill of the hunt" we are also realizing that there is only so much a house can hold! Can anyone else relate?? When my Mom passed away, she left a large collection of perfume bottles, medicine bottles and all sorts of little things. So now, I am in the enviable position of trying to do research on many of these items. Fortunately, I retired a year ago so I have the time to do so. I have already been a recipient of some expert help in the forum and looking forward to asking plenty more questions! Thanks for the assistance given already and thanks in advance for more to come! Steve

    Hi Natasha, Yes, I would love to see the photo. I stopped collecting the whistles a number of years ago but they still fascinate me.

    Here is my collection of Ukrainian traditional pottery whistles from the village of Opishne, the oldest center of pottery in Ukraine. In 2008 Opishne pottery was included into the UNESCO list of world intangible cultural heritage. All whistles are hand made. In the front you can see an ancient whistle which was found during excavations. Whistles.jpg
