Happened across this today. Chalkware blacksmith lamp- and the coals light up - which is way cool :) From what I've found online these were made in the 20's perhaps through the 50's? Some of them have motion "effects" using a spinning fan over the light bulb to create a flickering effect. This one does not. Marked on the back of the light bulb shroud - GRITT INC INDIANAPOLIS and a PAT number... if anyone can date this more accurately I'd be much obliged. Thanks!

Actually people who are doing modern forging work might really like that. There is a good size population of bladesmiths that still do similar work. Definitely different, I have never saw one.

Way cool. Think post-war, on into the 50s.

Thanks Brad - I think 50's too - I've found a couple versions of the blacksmith lamp on past ebay auctions - each one seems to be slightly different - but they were all listed as 20's - I don't think any of them really know though.

If you search for Frank Gritt in google patents you’ll find his patents range from 1928-1933.

Thank you!! I wonder if someone glued the little glass "coals" onto mine later. Also the glass /reflective back on mine is gone and a simple silver metal reflector is in place, and mine does not have a fan...so I suppose it has been modified.

Also I guess this does confirm it's from the 20's - very nice! Thanks again CX :)

Yes, the glass coals have been added but they look cool:) If you are keeping this you could buy the little fan for it.
