Grotesque Leather Face Sculpture

Every week I end up with boxes full of stuff from mixed auction lots as there is one piece that I really want in the lot. Most of it ends up back at the auction house in the future but sometimes there are good finds that I’ve bought by accident.

This week’s boxes included this strange and grotesque little leather hanging face.

Does anybody know from where and when this might have originated ?

 

a craft fair..?

 

Some of these I've seen originate in Italy, but they are made all over the place, leather wet-formed - some made by crafters.

 

A staple of craft fairs for a while.
