You know, Punksa... and no, I can’t even copy the spelling correctly, it isn’t spelled by my rules. Anyway went there today to fetch a treasure I learned about from a museum person in that area. About two minutes after I got off the phone with him I had bought it. Info on it will have to await some further investigation. Meanwhile I took photos on my 4 1/2 hrs x 2 trip, and some inside the antique shop where the Thing was, and I’ll post ‘em here tomorrow assuming I make it home tonite, have 2 more hrs to go from Breezewood PA (The Town Of Motels) to DC area. He has some interesting stuff in that otherwise very bare-bones shop. Only bought one other thing, a 1941 yard-long photo of an Army service battalion (?) at Fort Washington, MD, right across the Potomac River from me. Maybe the current owners, NPS, will be interested. I was sorely tempted by one of those galvanized, multi-tiered rotary hardware-store bin things, but I’m over-budget due to other Thing. Till tomorrow!
Punxatawany? Punkxatawney? Punxasomethingorother. I could never spell that one either, and I'm pretty good due to Connecticut and Massachusetts Native names.
Ok I’ll post a buncha photos, first inside the shop since more people will be interested, then the travelogue, of interest to some.
That wooden parts cabinet would be perfect for sewing supplies...(LOL) If it isn't dirty and full of screws of course.
That hardware store rotary bin bothered me all morning, one of those “shoulda boughts.” It just has “Me” all over it. Called Chad again (nice guy!) and worked out a deal, I sent him 1/2 today and other half due when I pick it up in the future. I really like the thing-galvanized steel with a good patina; old labels from various eras on many bins. Plus it’ll be filled with fasteners and used daily in my business, won’t just sit there and look pretty! Anyone traveling from around Pittsburgh to DC with a little extra room please contact me, the thing disassembles; I’ll make it worth your trouble.
Ok lessee how many boring trip photos are small enuf to fit here-I cropped ‘em a lot to get the size down. These were taken between about Breezewood, Pa. and Groundhog Town. My favorite town name in that region has always been Nanty-Glo. Nolo may be second. From now on I’ll always carry a selfie-stick on car trips as it makes taking photos out the window with cell phone easier and safer- I didn’t have one this time.
Hi Spring, I must have driven the Pa Turnpike over 3 thousand times. I still love to see the countryside there. greg
Well good, I’ll post some more of the pix that show some of the smaller roads. I was a bit puzzled in the Osterburg area and north when I’d see large blacktop parking lots next to power switchyards, but where’s the factory that’s always adjacent to those two?? Answer is underground: coal mines!
I think you should get in touch with the History Channel and start your own show. It would probably be more interesting than Pickers!
