Plat1.jpg plat2.jpg plat3.jpg plat4.jpg plat5.jpg I would Like some information on this platter. I know that it is probably from 1886. The platter is in very good condition. The name is under the glaze so must have been put there when made? Why and who? All information appreciated.

The name is date is typical of a home decorator - someone who bought a blank and did the painting him or herself. I think the H&Cie is a Limoges mark - the mark of a French manufacturer - but others will know more about that than I.

As far as I know, you are right about the L, MOS. And of course on the hobbyist art work. Looking at the flowers and foliage, I tend to assess the "86" as 1986, not 1886, but I could be wrong. Given how much of the gilded border has worn away, you'd think that the flowers would have some wear too, if they were applied well over 100 years ago.

    BTW, that's wisteria.

Thank you for answering my post. I did find this information, that if the mark is "underlined H&Co over L then the date is between 1876-1889 according to [IMG]

And yes, my thought exactly, it is very surprising how good of shape it is in considering it is 133 years old. Like it was never used.
