I got this vintage butterfly hair clasp from France. The frame is very basic, and I have never seen the way the pin is fastened before.
The butterflies and flowers look like plique-à-jour enamel, except they are made with synthetic material instead of vitreous enamel.

    Total width: 11 cm / 4.33"

Does anyone have any idea of the age, or when this type of fastening was used?

    Thank you for looking.:)

I'd call that a bun clasp or clip. It's reminiscent of stuff we wore in the seventies. I suspect it's crafted.

Thanks:) 70s makes sense. I wore my hair loose in the 70s, so I never looked at clasps.

Oh my, that is so pretty. I love hair jewelry. I do have one set of hearts with the attached sliding closure but they are plastic. Oh, and my favorite color is purple so I do love them!

Lovely hair piece with my favorite color.
I couldn't wear those back in the day, my hair was so thick and long that a clip was too uncomfortable to wear.

I call these hair buckles. Agree they began to appear in the 70s & that this one is artisan made. Bought some at a crafts show as recently as the late 2010s.

The Antiquers bug strikes again.:hilarious: I have a lot of hair jewellery, but most of it is antique. I bought this because it was so pretty, cheap too.;)
