Hi all, I am trying to find out when this etching might have been done. I have seen different ones with the layout different on the border and sigs. but none with the actual plate # in the bottom right. not that makes any difference. but this looks just like the original engravings. Plate marks measure 8 1/4" x 10 1/2"
Also it is very clean compared to others of this type so maybe not as old.

Is there anything on the back?
I looked at this last night and did a quick search. Found that there were a lot of copies out there. Some prints and some engravings.

Here's what I think, which may or may not be correct.
When I worked in a major department store, the furniture department had engravings from Italy that they used as decor to set off the furniture. These were for sale as well. They were high end copies of early engravers.

So doubt that is it "original", however, it looks like a really nicely done engraving.
The frame looks 1950s - 70s. Just guessing there.
    Sorry can't help more.

Thanks to both of you for looking. i did see that one. wish i knew what it sold for. I agree with you on the fame pat, mid century most likely. There is nothing on the back, covered in old paper and a wire hanger.

Thanks cxgirl, When i viewed it there was no price.
    Seems funny though,
Jean Jacques Avril was a 18th century engraver. He did not make etchings. Nice price though for a late 19th or early 20th century etching. I would be happy to make even 1/4 of that. It would be pretty awesome though considering I paid .69 cents for it lol.
