Hand Packed Ceramic (Porcelain?) Owl signed IB. Looks Really old to me.

This owl figurine is made of white clay. Apparently produced in a mold, the clay is hand-packed and very thick. It weighs about 3 ½ lbs. It’s mostly tints of brown, but the glaze on the breast has a definite greenish tint. The figurine stands about 7 ½” tall and measures about 4” across. There are initials inscribed on the bottom – conjoined IB. These have been outlined in ink (not by me). Any thoughts on who, when or where?

 

That font doesn't look old and it really kind of looks like studio pottery to me.

 

Can't say as I agree. Incised initials aren't much to go on in that respect, but thanks for looking.

 

I would've thought studio pottery, too.

 

I can't state that it isn't.

 

When I was a pottery student we sculpted figurines from a solid lump, after the clay set up a bit, we hollowed out the interior before firing - looks to me like this piece was done in the same manner...
