I’d love some help to date the pin on the back of the brooch please.
I love this idea of having a brooch to match your buttons! Think it’s quite old but the patent number is a dead end unless I’m looking in the wrong place.
    Thanks for your help :)

I wonder if the top part of the button is paper mache? No question they are old. Victorian?

Wait for others. Very cool -- definitely never seen a set with a matching brooch. They are beautiful honestly.

The style of the brooch , the enamelling and the print font is all late 19th into early 20th.

Way older than I thought! Thankyou!
Could be papier-mâché, I posted them on a button forum and that was a suggestion as was the following.

They also strongly advised storing them separately from the original backing paper as the paper isn’t acid free and will contribute to deterioration of the buttons which I didn’t know.

So interesting to see them on their original card.

Great isn’t it. Maybe someone bought them for a project that never happened and they sat there for years!

Look up the patent number; it'll at least tell you the year the design was registered. If it were American, you would even be able to see the original patent. Dunno about the UK.

I''d not separate them. If they've survived this long, they'll be fine and it destroys the history. You could tuck a bit of acid free in between, gently.

I've Edwardian paper ephemera with that font and style.

Don't remove them from the card if your intention is resale.

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

Did you search on this site? https://www.gov.uk/search-for-patent
There are several ways to search. I don't know enough about British patent law to know which would be best. Also, I can't quite read the number on your piece. Looks like 12490 15, with a space between the 0 and 1 ?

I love the colors on these!
