I would also appreciate any suggestions as to the best place to try and sell it.

The painting on the pitcher depicts black birds at sunset. There is a manufacturer’s mark on the bottom and the pitcher is 8 1/2” high, 5 3/8” wide at the widest point of the body excluding the handle and 7 3/8” wide with the handle. It’s in very good condition.

I have a hunch my relative got it in Japan as he served there in World War II.

    Thanks!

Not much help on the mark, but I think your piece is missing the lid and is a chocolate pot rather than a pitcher.

I would look at ebay sold listings for value. Depending on where you live, you might fetch more via facebook marketplace. If you ship however, they will collect your info for tax to 1099 you.

Too bad about the missing lid. It is a beautiful piece. I'd say probably 1910-1920

  15. I found something that looks to be from the same set, the seller claims it is from 1930-1939. Not quite the same object but I'd bet yours isnt too far separated from it. https://www.ebay.com/itm/174959993957

Until this year, $20K was the limit for eBay as well. But the laws changed for 2022 and now ALL platforms have to report a sellers earnings over $600.
    At least that’s my impression?

I wonder whether you guys think I could safely ship this (I plan to post on eBay) or if I should do local pickup only.

    Thanks!

Just checked eBay completed sales for objects like this. Almost none sold. Does anyone have any ideas about other potential places to try to sell this?

    Thanks!

Ii can be shipped safely. Personally I would double-box it. I take the pot and wrap it in a layer of tissue paper and then a layer of butcher paper. Then use one or two layers of bubble paper. Then place the wrapped pot in the first box. That box should be inserted into a second box and cushioned by newspapers on all four sides plus top and bottom. I'd use a 12 x 12 x 12 box for the outer box.

What I would be more concerned about, though, is whether this item would sell for enough to be worth the trouble. While it's in an interesting piece the missing top is a real problem. I think komokwa is optimistic at $35. Here in Indiana I doubt I'd get more than $10 and the particular city I live in is known for its crows (lucky us!). It could pass for a pitcher on a high shelf I suppose. You could try it on Facebook Marketplace but there's a good chance it will sit for a bit.
