    Hello everyone
I am hoping someone can help my confusion with these Mantle Lusters. I have found others like them, but on the base of mine, there are Handel Stickers. I know this is an antique maker of lamps, but none look anything like mine. Any thoughts? 20250522_110805.jpg 20250522_112027.jpg

This is a fairly common style of 19th century candle sticks commonly referred to as “girandole”. There is a very good link describing these here:

    http://hkarlscharoldantiques.com/docs/Girandoles_Guide_HKarlScharold.pdf

Note that he refers to the heyday of mid 1800s with later late 19th to 20th century reproductions, which is what I assume yours to be. The Handel Lamps (1885-1936) label appears authentic, and unlikely to have been added later, so it is reasonable to assume that the Handel company made this retro style of candlesticks in addition to the colored glass lamps they are now famous for. Companies make what there is a market for, so wouldn’t be surprising if they made some of these.

Finding some old Handel catalogs could answer this question, or simply send good pics (better than you show here - front, back, top, bottom, sides) to an auction company that specializes in Handel lamps and ask whether these are indeed by Handel, when, and whether they would want to consign them for auction with expected value. https://www.fontainesauction.com/about/handel-lamps/

My guess is that they would not be interested, but it is certainly worth asking since they may be, and their evaluation is far more trustworthy than anything you will get on this or any other website.

BTW, there were 160 hits with a search on eBay for “girandole candle marble”, including what looks to be a very similar pair of candlesticks on eBay with an incorrect date (in my opinion) but no maker. 187213721055

Certainly not the Handel lamps that are most sought after. However the quality is there and I see no reason to doubt the origin. Who is going to put deceptive Handel stickers on these?

Especially not sewn down like these were. I'd be thinking these are from the tag ends of the company.

Thank you so much for your thoughts and insights on these candlesticks. It seems so strange to have a maker known for lamps so different than the candlesticks. I'll take your suggestions. Thanks again!
