handmade skirt strange material

    I got 2 skirts today at thrift store, both handmade. this one boggles me.
    What kind of material is this or what do you think the skirt was made for ? The blue one has the same pattern but more common material I think.

    They both appear to be wool.
    The second one is definitely knitted, so I am going to assume the first one is also.

    Maybe a knitting machine?
    Wait for the textile people to respond. I really don't know much about this.

    The first one is made from a bouclé yarn, probably wool.
    Bouclé yarn is made with loops and curls. When you knit it, you get that rough looking but soft to the touch material. It was very popular in the 70s and 80s.
    Skirts with all kinds of fancy splits were popular in 80s.

    Both hand knits, the first is boucle. Those colours are shouty 1960s, as is the fringe styling. A burn test will reveal the composition. Second one looks to have some angora.
