    Hi there antiquers,
    My grandmother collects old dishes and when I was at Goodwill yesterday I found an adorable sugar bowl (at least that's what I think it is).

    I realized when I got home that my German is awful... I thought it said, "Replica of handmade pieces".. but my husband corrected me.

    Anyone know anything about this? I would love to include the story for my gramma. I found lots of DDR/ PGH stuff, but they are typically stamped in.

    I will add I've found the same text, different handwriting, online with 3's and 5's (not 1 or 7?) online that were handwritten; I just can't find any information about what that means.

    Handmade & hand painted. That's the limit of my German. The P in PGH could be for porcelain, in German of course. Unless it is quite big, have to say definitely a sugar bowl.

    Thanks! I appreciate your help!

    As far as I understand it, between 1950-1970 (ish) small artisan companies in DDR were forced to become part of PGH (like a coop) based on region. They stamped their goods as "PGH" - I'm wondering if the number is a region? Other similar pieces I've seen had regions added, or different numbers. Then there is of course the PGH stamp.

    At this point, I have nothing to add & everything to learn. :)

    The number below the mark is a European 1, not a 7.

    Thanks! I’ll keep digging! Seems Friedrichshain goes with a 3, for whatever that’s worth.

    PGH = Produktionsgenossenschaft des Handwerks
    Kunsthandwerker handgemacht = artisan handmade

    which means in reality that - for the prosperity of the Socialism :hilarious::hilarious::hilarious: - an individual artisan (Handwerker) or small companies and family businesses were forced to join a cooperative to overcome the capitalism.
