Has anybody seen anything like this before?

I collect Asian and Islamic boxes but I've never seen anything like this before, I have just won this at auction, a punt really on it being an early Islamic hand painted miniature but it could just as well be a photo copied print applied to a box, I didn't even know whether it's on wood or ceramic. I like it even if it turns out to be made yesterday. I've not yet received it so I can only give a link to it's listing, please guys let me know what you think

An idle guess is paper mache, but I don't think you'll know until you get it. It does look nice. Quite a description in that listing.

 

I think your right, it's either paper mache, ceramic or painted wood. No matter what it's made from it will be the date and if it's been hand painted, if it has been hand painted then it will be early as this sort of high quality detailed artwork didn't really get produced much after 1920.....please god let it hand painted lol

 

I have a sinking feeling it's some sort of transfer or photo print, at least partially. The Indian/Kashmiri boxes I've seen have mostly been hand painted, but not with this detail.
