Heavy Censor-What would it be made of?

    and I think it probably is a decorator piece, but thought I would just check. It's heavy for it's size at 5 lbs and 5 3/4" tall. It has a surface shellac that is peeling off and is a dark brown color (not as red as shown in pictures)

    Probably soapstone with lacquer finish.
    Might be an incense burner missing its lid.

    Hi,
    Looks like carved soapstone with "shellacked" finish. I LOVE the bat on it.

    It's a censer, by the way. A heavy censor is what they have in totalitarian countries.
