I have a quite interesting bowl that I know nothing about but I'd like too if anyone can help?
    I'm guessing it is bronze?
It appears possibly Persian/Iran? The symbols around the bowl could be writing?
It's 6.5 cm high, 14.5 cm diameter and it weighs 350g.
I have had it for a long time and it's origin fascinates me!
Please do let me know any ideas that you may have.
    Thank you in advance.

Yes it is, and it is antique. My parents had one like it.
Stylized calligraphy, which has become so stylized that it may have lost its meaning.;)

Just a guesstimate, 19th century. I think this is a kind of item that has been made for a long time. A useful little bowl that pleases the eye.

The bowl actually has a some history... I sold it to somebody in Japan from ebay. It was paid for promptly. I messaged the buyer for detailed information regarding their delivery address. Just at that time the awful 2011 Tōhoku tsunami happened and I never heard from them again. I can only believe the worst....

AJ Is that silver over brass?

Tin.:) The Persians used a lot of tin on copper, and sometimes on brass. It was a cheap substitute for silver, and there was a time when silver was in short supply.

Interesting, thank you. It explains what appeared to be surface rust!

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

I'm sorry to hear that the buyer was absent, and I hope the worst did not happen to them.
