    Hi,

I need some help getting info on these canes I've bought.

These are 3 antler horn sticks. I have numbered them to help when you give info on them.

Theres no markings on them. The silver is possibly tin and pewter (spelled correctly?)

The wood on all 3 is a hard wood. If you could identify the wood, that would be a big help.

I believe they are old. The wood on the light coloured one has cracks but they look like age cracks, where the wood has properly dried out so aren't affecting the strength. But not sure how old and wanting to sell them so age would be great.

    Any info would be great.

    Thanks guys.

AARP is closed until tomorrow morning. But there are quite a few exceptionally knowledgeable and helpful gentlemen here, more than one can help with wood IDs. A few should be along shortly. In my very humble opinion I would advise not planning a vacation on the proceeds.

Sorry, you lost me on AARP. As I said I'm pretty new so if it's a joke or genuine advice it's gone over my head! Ha Not looking to vacation on the proceeds, don't worry. Im just trying to give buyers as much info as possible I guess, maybe build up client base or what not. I paid about £8 for each stick so even £15-£20 each is showing a decent profit. But guess I just like to know as much as possible about items I own, even if it's only for a few weeks before I sell them on. I would think these could have been made any time but seem to have some age to them. I would think at least the first half of the 20th century if not older. Really hard to tell wood from such a small piece and a blurry pic. A lot of canes were made out of hickory due to its flexibility and strength. Your first could be such. The last one looks like it was probably made from an old weathered branch as I doubt it got looking that way during its life as a cane. The metal is probably not pewter since it is soft and probably not strong enough for this use. Probably some kind of nickel alloy.

Thanks for that. The metal around them doesn't seem to be holding anything together, just seems to be design or to hide the join I guess. Which is why I thought pewter buy guess an alloy of some sort would make sense as well.

Think two of them were made from old branches, and left that way. Is what makes it hard to tell age I guess because branch would be 100 years old and cane 5 minuets old using old branch type thing. Would that make much difference to the value of these? Or is old cane on older branch still more desirable?

    Thanks

Sorry about photos, didn't realise were blurry when I took them.
