    Reupholstered in the 70s but looks to be English, Edwardian period.

    It is not burned. It is carved with a stippled background and stain applied. This is typically English, though you do sometimes see it in American furniture.

    When you post a question it would be a huge help to us if you give us anything you know about the piece, like:
    - where you got it
    - where you are (this is a global board)
    - anything you know about it (what did the seller tell you when you bought it, any family history)
    - complete set of measurements
