Featured Help dating signet ring

Hi,

Clearing out my father's house, I have come across what appears to be a gold signet ring with the initials A.G. (unfortunately, A.G. are common initials in my family dating back over 300 years !).

Curiously, there are no hallmarks at all, unless they have worn off - but there are no traces of any at all.

So I'm interested to know if anyone can :

a) Confirm this is a signet ring, I assume worn by a man as it's quite chunky.
b) Based on it's design, is anyone able to help date this ring ?

Not a signet! Initials would have to be mirror view...
This is a Victorian mourning a sentimental ring, lacking a band of plaited hair in the recess part of it

Agreed on date and mourning. Nice one too.

A seal ring would have mirror initials, signet usually right way round.

Whoa so is the top of the ring like a tunnel for the hair? A hair tunnel if you will? Where you could like pull the knot under to hide it maybe? I assume there had to be a knot?

Not sure what your question is
The plaited hair is made apart, with loose ends, and those ends are hidden under the gold escutcheon.
I suppose some glue under is necessary
