Could/would you be kind enough to post photographs of the complete work, both front and back, including frames? Also close-ups of any stickers, labels and/or handwritten notations on the back. Please also provide us with details about your painting such as size, medium and provenance. All of this information helps us help you.

Thanks! Just added all the photos. Both oil on board. Both are 27/35 cm.

Thank you. So mid-century. And they appear to be German. Is that where you found them? Love the Expressionism blue.

Hum... The label says "Galati" which is a town in Romania.

They are very charming, and I would agree 50s-60s from the frames. Can't help with the signature, sorry.

Of course, Galati could have another meaning. But... That does look like a Communist-era label. You could contact the Romania Visitor Center to see if they know what the acronym O.P.C.N. stands for.

O.P.C.N.= obiect patrimoniul cultural național, in English:

Well, thank you! I thought it would stand for something like that.

I think I see the surname ends with the suffix "anu" which, according to wikipedia.org, in Romania means:

"Another common derivation was to append the suffix -eanu or the simpler forms -anu and -an to the name of a place, river, village, or region, e.g. Ardeleanu (from Ardeal), Moldoveanu (from Moldova), Mureșanu (from Mureș), Sadoveanu etc. (cognate to Italian -(i)ano). They may indicate a country or ethnic origin (e.g. Grecu - from Greece, Ungureanu - from Hungary, Rusu - from Russia)."
