Need some help here folks. Anyone know the maker of this cobalt blue glass vase with applied clear handles? The pretty overlay is marked Sterling on each side. Height is about 9-1/2". Thanks in advance. DSCN2185.JPG DSCN2186.JPG DSCN2187.JPG DSCN2188.JPG DSCN2189.JPG DSCN2190.JPG DSCN2191.JPG

The silver overlay was most likely applied at Silver City Glass.
Also from Meriden, Connecticut, they did most of the silver on Caprice and Cascade pieces, and the silver is beautiful, but not the quality of Rockwell. Silver City did their decorating up until the mid-1950's, when most of the other silver companies had disappeared. They stayed in business because no other US companies were still doing overlay. Their pieces almost always said "Sterling" in the silver.

    Silver City Patterns:

    • All of the "Anniversary" pieces of Caprice
    • Partially Satinized Poppies – using a combo of sterling with etching and cutting on ball jugs where the flowers are outlined in silver.
    • Lily of the Valley - pattern on Caprice.
    • A variety of "Fruit" patterns.
    • A variety of "Floral" designs on many Caprice baskets and bowls, (these floral designs included: Daffodil, Daisy, Flanders, California Poppy, Forest, Princess Rose, Queen Rose, Fern, Springtime, Chrysanthemum, Silver Leaves, Scroll and Swag, and Vintage.

Interesting about the silver overlay! Thanks. Do you think the glass is Cambridge?

It could also be Tiffin glass.

It's possible that this might be Italian. I sold a Pitcher w/ 4 Tumblers that looked very similar to your vase. Here's the photos and the pieces were marked Italy.

This is "silver deposit", not "silver overlay".

Silver overlay is thick, hammered and worked silver that confirms to the shape of the piece, it is not stuck to the piece so you can get a fingernail under it.

Silver deposit is thin silver chemically attached to the piece, almost looks painted on. If you look inside a glass piece you can see matt white behind the silver. One giveaway is your "sterling" mark, on silver overlay, if marked, it would be a hallmark stamped in the silver.

Typical silver deposit piece (yes they call it silver overlay, most eBay sellers don't know the difference):

    Silver overlay:

All this said, if you want to sell this piece on eBay you want to sell it as silver overlay because that is what everyone else is doing. :inpain:
