While I'm here I thought I'd post a few more, starting with this Oil painting of two women overlooking a child. It's in an expressionism style, very beautiful similar to work by Edna Hibel, but I can't read the name correctly I think. I either see it as Valarit, or Valarie. If you can help that would be great! Thank you. I got it an an estate auction in the 90s in Las Vegas. It's in storage now, but I took these pictures before placing it there. I forgot to take a picture of the back but I do have the measurement pics. 23 1/2 x 19" .

Is that a burlap frame? Or a liner?

I really like the image. It's well done. The signature looks like one of those where the artist got design-y. Looks like a strike through the letter(s) after a, and maybe two stalks on the t, maybe meaning tt? Dot for an i or an apostrophe? Often the back has more clues for us. This style is fairly popular so hard to narrow.

From memory the back was older I think dating to the 60s or perhaps a bit older. I'll get the photo in a few days. Indeed with the signature, that's why I think I've had a lot of trouble narrowing it down. Valadie Valadit

When you take more pictures, try to get a few of the signature. Sometimes the glare and the paint texture hides the strokes.

You sure the signature isn't "Valerie"?

The signature on the valadie paintings looks quite different. Like a hectic swirl.

Perhaps it's a Jean-Baptist Valadie after all. I see he used at least 2 signatures. Some of his artwork vaguely resembles this, for instance : 1_3f2845373ad10dc5cdad7a02fd239ba8.jpg .

More like someone trying to copy Jean Baptist Valadie. For me the hands on the two women in the picture are too big ,out of proportion compared to the artwork shown by APainter, where the hands are more in proportion ,they are more petite, even the baby's hands are not well executed .IMO.

Oooo see this is Art is Subjective in action! :artist: I've been admiring the hands every time I come in this post. I simply adore them. The shape language is so satisfying. They have weight to them. I don't think they're out of proportion at all.
