@kardinalisimo, the first image you're showing looks very nice and under glass! But the second, close-up seems to be done in a different style....a type of 'pointillism'.....that I don't see in your first image..........no matter how much I enlarge it..........

Yes, the post identifies one artist, but also says "It remains a mystery who actually painted the original-original of this girl-in-a-boat-at-sunset scene".

There do seem to be many but it's suggested more than one place that it is actually by Heinrich Vosberg and perhaps first titled Einsam und Verlassen .

I did find a print that says it was taken from Etching of the original 1887 Alone and Forsaken Painting. Print measures about 14" x 9" and features a 12 1/2" x 7" image size mounted on a 18" x 13" matte. Includes 13" x 18" Information Text which reads "Alone and Forsaken: Photogravure from the original painting by Heinrich Vosberg (German School)" as shown in photos. Print was removed from the folio "One Hundred Crowned Masterpieces of Painting from the Paris Exhibition Salon Etc Section" from the Prize Paintings of the Paris Salon, The Royal Academy, and the Paris Exhibition of 1989 (I'm guess that should read 1889 or so)

So with that info I found this old book entry but I can't actually read it.

I have a painting of this image. To me it seems like oil paint. It is framed and I grew up with it. My older brother once told me it was worth a great deal of $. I’m 59. How do I have this valued?

@Kathy Adams , welcome to Antiquers!

The only way to really have a reliable assessment of value of a painting is by somebody who can examine it in person. I would recommend trying to find somebody in your area who can do this work. If there is nobody, I would try to find somebody to whom you would be willing to ship the painting. Look for opinions and reviews about whomever you contact, and also look at what their qualifications are.

I was unable to find out where the original painting is, but it's very likely that yours is a painted copy, given the description. It was very common (and still is) to make painted copies of popular images. Also, this one has been copied in the form of prints many times.
