Help ID Old SHORT SWORD marked 1783, Crown/G, & More

    Fun estate find today, but beyond my expertise... I know someone HERE can help!
    Short sword is a shade over 19" overall; 15" edge + 4" to end of (rather short) leather-wrapped grip. Numerous marks on both sides of blade, but I see nothing on guard or pommel.
    [CROWN over "R" - not "G"! Can't edit title here?]
    Crudely made scabbard looks like folded tin with a thin leather belt loop fastened with a button. Scabbard is an inch longer than the sword requires, but it fits, otherwise.
    Guard has a little wiggle, but grip is tight on blade.
    Any help at all is welcome and appreciated!
    (I took a bunch of pictures, as I know people want to see details of EVERYTHING - I hope it's not TOO many for this forum...)
