    hey guys
so this little piece of pewter was in a box of mixed stuff i got at auction recently, it seemed like a decent quality so i took it with me.
(whenever i get these boxes of stuff i take whatever i think i can sell or want to keep, and give the stuff i dont like/want to a charity shop)
now the thing is, its pretty and all, but the hallmark looks quite nice. at first i thought it was some arabic or asian writing, but looking at it in better light it looks like roman letters. i think its a PLC and something more, intertwined in each other. any ideas? :) IMG_4917.JPG IMG_4918.JPG

I see an I, an S and the C with a tiny o (forming Co for Company?) But there's another vertical line through the S and the C that should belong to something. If it were the vertical line in a capital P, the P would be backwards in relation to all the other letters, so I'm skeptical.

    I see an I, a S, and a F - then the Co for company.
Still doesn't mean anything to me though. :)

What size is this? Is it a bowl shape? Also, I think the flower may be a tudor rose?

Not a Tudor rose. Or any kind of rose: look at those very pronounced stamens, and the overlap on the petals, plus their shape. It's the common British field poppy, one of the papaver species.

I think a lot of times a Tudor rose is represented as a flower within a flower (I have no idea if a real flower of that name exists or what it looks like). It could be a poppy, anemone something like that. It could also possibly be cast aluminium. No idea really. Sorry no help.

yeah that makes sence~ sooo... SLC Co ? could be a possibility :) and naa it gotta be pewter, aluminum is too light, not thats particularely heavy but there is not alot of metal in it anyways~
and also it measures 8 cm in diameter, Wenna
and regarding what kinda flower it is, i have no clue :D just looked abit like a traditional english kinda rose to me~

its excactley that design, but dang ;) if only mine was a Dragsted~ although, i havent heard of Ernst Dragsted as a part of the Dragsted family before... ive heard of Einar, Arent, Alfred, Franz, Aage and Ove, hmm~ oh well, i suppose he must be a part of them, the metal-artistique is a part of the family trade :)

Wow that's amazing. The one mhc posted seems to have a hammered effect but otherwise the same pattern. I wonder if one is copying the other or if both are copying something else.

maybe it is a un-patented design? like in flatware here in denmark, we have a pattern called Riflet or dobeltriflet, and its been made by pretty much every respectable silversmith since the early 19th century :)

MHC: It looks as if Ernst was indeed "one of them":

The firm of Dragsted was founded in Copenhagen in 1854 by Arent Nikolaj Dragsted. Dragsted participated in the London World Exposition in 1862 and was later appointed Danish Royal Court Jeweller. His sons Franz and Alfred succeeded him after his death in 1880. Ernst Dragsted took over in 1920 and was active throughout the 1950s.

ahh nice :) its not the most common danish name so he was probably going to be~ but thanks for the conclusive answer :D
i guess i can label it as ''in the style of Ernst Dragsted'' when i sell it then :p

He may be a good artist, but that ain't no daisy! ;) Categorically a poppy. Daisies don't do the long stamen with fused carpel thing.

I don't know Bear, I'm with you, even artistic license wouldn't make it a daisy, and it could be a poppy, but it looks a lot like a wild rose to me...

Pretty, kind of reminds me of the bowl on a Hildesheimer Rose spoon in my Mom's collection, also pictured on the 'Rosen-Besteke' book cover.
