Peter, would you be kind enough to post photographs of the entire work including frame? That will provide clues as to the artist's era and culture. Also, if there are labels, stickers and/or handwritten notations on the back, please post in focus, close-up photographs.

Thank you so much for replying. I don’t see any markings on the back but I will look further. Here is a full photo of the painting.

So Edwardian or a tad earlier. Do you know anything else about it?

No. Unfortunately not. All I know is that my recently passed 96 year old mother has had this painting 40 plus years

Can we see a picture of the back? I see "J. Ribara" but all i could find under that was a Jusepe Ribara who was a 17th century artist. This just doesnt match his work.Scratch that,I spelled his last name wrong.

Looked at Francisco Ribera but signature doesn’t match. Very perplexing. I have been trying to search all variations of spelling of this last name. I will take a photo of the back and share. Unfortunately from what I see is old framing and side tacked canvas. Thank you all for assisting

Francisco Ribera is mid-century kitsch. Yours a bit later. It's possible you may never be able to identity artist.

Not having any luck either. Has a bit of a Pre-Raphaelite look to it.
