I ended up with this old cabinet/armoire and I need some help identifying it so that I can get rid of it. From the research I have done it seems to fit in the category of Dutch Colonial Armoire or Cabinet.. possibly from Indonesia? I have found a couple of listings on line that are very similar but I have no idea the age or worth of this thing or if it is authentic? I have attached some pictures of the piece, the only marking I have found and the comparable listings. Please help!

Welcome again, Heather. What you have is a beautiful Indonesian cabinet, made on the small island of Madura, north of Java.
The cabinet is based on a Dutch cabinet, but with added Madurese carvings and colours. The wood looks like teak, which would have been sourced in neighbouring East Java.
It was made in the late 20th or early 21st century. Making this style furniture has been an ongoing tradition since colonial times.

There are buyers for these pieces, even the recent ones, because of the aesthetic and the artistry involved.

Thank you! You are very knowledgeable! Do you happen to have any ideas as to how I can hone in on the age or maker? Or recommendations on how to find a buyer? Thanks again!!

komokwa The Truth is out there...!

to find a buyer, you must advertise , on line and in local media.

an auction house in your area is another groovy idea.

If u really want to get rid of it..... kick it to the curb , and I guarantee in 24 hrs , it will be gone !!!

    Good luck !

The age I mentioned in my first post, late 20th or early 21st century.
It was made by one of many furniture makers on Madura. They are only known by name by the people who do business with them. There are no famous makers, they are all good, and knowing the maker does not add to the value.
The text "alas dagang" means something like trading base, so it is not a name.

Madura is not highly modernized and subjected to mass tourism like Bali. It is very much a quiet, mostly rural island group where everyone goes about their business the way their families have done for generations. That business includes furniture making and carving, for which they are well known in Indonesia. The Madurese are considered the best carvers in Indonesia, but they never had the marketing and financial support the Balinese carvers had, so you don't see their work as much internationally.
I think you can only find the name of your maker if you go to Madura and ask around and show the photo of your cabinet to local furniture makers.
That all depends on where you are. I live in the Netherlands, so I can only say what I would do here.

Any Jewelry is spot-on. As modern used furniture, this is worth what someone is willing to pay for it for their use. It really has no collectible or antique value that an authentic piece would have. That said, this is a nice piece that should be worth something to someone. Values are very dependent on where and how selling. The large size makes this a problematic sale. Here in the US, this would be a local sale for most people. A listing on facebook marketplace or craigslist with local pick up would be the way to go. In my semi-rural Midwest market, we would be somewhere well below $1000.00 on this. You might do better in or near a large city.
