Spanish 916 sterling silver is a sterling silver which means that 91.6% of the piece is pure silver.

For a long time, from 1881 onward, .916 was the highest fineness used in Spain. Only in the late 20th century did they start using .925 fineness (sterling) and very rarely .999.

Any ideas about these silver stamps?

You've posted this already, José. Why don't you just continue on the same thread? Are you looking for the manufacturer? Not sure it affects value.

I just posted this in Silver when I was sure it was silver and not another metal. I would be interested to know the origin of the thing, if anyone knows.

As I understand it, silver needs to be at least 925 to be called sterling, so your 916 piece would not be sterling.

Well, you know what it is and you know it's Spanish and you know the subject and you know its silver. What else do you wish to know?

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

Inverted, sharpened and enlarged a bit.....I can't speak to the silver, but where I've outlined, looks like it "COULD" be a date....possibly reads 1903????? I just can't see it clearly enough........and I could be wrong as well!!!:bored:
