1960s ish from the clasp. They look very matched to me, so I suspect cultured. Any marks on the clasp?

Size of the pearls, largest & smallest, & length of the strand will be important to value. Are they all spherical to the eye or are some a more elongated shape?

The findings, the metal bits, do not look like good quality, I'm afraid.

Mm, agreed. If they're real, they're cultured, but I'm dubious based on that close up.

    Thank for your answer!
    largest- 0,9mm
    smallest-0,7mm
but on average almost everything is 0,7-0,75mm in size
length of the strand - ≈57cm
as far as I can see they are all spherical

What you mean about "metal bits"?

The clasp, the chain, etc. Everything that is not the pearls or the cord they are strung on. They do not look like gold.

    Hi,
Cultured pearls are not found in the wild. People collect oysters and implant a tiny piece of shell. To make the oyster start covering the bit with layers of nacre to make a pearl. They are real pearls just not wild natural pearls.

Try rubbing one of the pearls against the surface of your tooth. If it feels gritty, it is probably a cultured pearl. If it feels smooth - it is a faux pearl - either glass or other material.

A matched & graduated strand of pearls that grew naturally, without any help from man, is an extremely expensive thing that would definitely have good gold findings.

This test distinguishes between pearls that grew inside a mollusk from ones that are completely artificial. It does not distinguish between natural & cultured pearls, as both are made from nacre. Most 'real' pearls on the market have been cultured (farmed). Good cultured pearls are not without value.

Yep agree - I wasn't as clear as I should have been on that. From what I've read - truly naturally occurring saltwater pearls are quite rare, and very valuable- and would certainly not turn up in a necklace with these type of fittings. I am assuming OP's are artificial, but an outside shot at being cultured.

    I didn't read every reply.
    Was the clasp discussed?
This is a very unusual clasp. As well as having a safety chain. Not something commonly seen on your everyday strand of cultured pearls.
Which makes me think that these came from a very exclusive jewelry store.

See the piece that goes into the pearl - pull that out and check for any marks. Might be white gold or platinum.

Are these a family heirloom? Where were they from?
Or did you buy these - also where from?
