I am hoping this falls under 'antique' (at least vintage!) because you guys have answered every question I'd posted here & I have no idea where else I can post about a ...mid century... fur coat that I found at a local thrift store today.
It was only $19.95 and I thought it was cool when I saw it, but I knew it was cool when a lady in line behind me asked me if I wanted $40 for it right there + she would pay for the coat itself!
It says made in Hong Kong so I am thinking it's from the '50's?
What kind of fur is it? It's both straight and curly in different places (3rd photo)! I thought cashmere at first but I had a cashmere sweater before & it wasn't long lie this.
PS - Finally - I'm a animal lover (I have 4 dogs & 3 of them are in bed with me while I watch a movie and post this!), and this is the first fur coat I've ever bought, but I thought it was cool (as I said) + fur coats are suppose to be expensive. And if it isn't, then for $19.95 I wouldn't lose a lot of money.
Thank you, I appreciate any help.

Mongolian lamb? (and LOL - I doubt it's anything near antique!)

I think this is Mongolian Lamb fur. It seems to me that they were popular in the 1970's and 80's.

It's a not-quite-successful (proportionately) chubby. Popular in the 1970s after Yves Saint Laurent 1971 Scandal Collection which was 1940s-inspired. Generic labeling, wouldn't have been an expensive item in its time. Here's an original. And Rhianna recently rocking an homage.

Sheepskin jackets were all the rage starting around 1969/70. I had one, except with the fur on the inside. Before that it was rabbit fur.

That first link is new as well.

I think a brand new coat might have more value in this case since not a known maker.

Probably some money to be made on a second hand one, but only if in near pristine condition. No smells, no stains, etc.

Agree with avoiding "mid century". Not accurate, and as mentioned 70s/80s a much better selling point for clothing.

The lining is most likely acetate

I would think. If it were from a high end Hong Kong store and a bit earlier, I would expect silk. But coat appears to be mass market and acetate most likely.
