Hi! I'm new here, so please be gentle... I'm here because I have nowhere else to turn... I've asked friends and scoured the internet for information on these two figurines that a co-worker gave me because 1. she knows how I like weird stuff and 2. her husband couldn't stand looking at them anymore. She said that she inherited them from her aunt or something. I think they're pretty cool. They are about 7" long by 5" tall, and really heavy. They don't have any identifying markings on them at all. Some people tell me they're real jade. We can't tell if they're cats or dogs. Can you tell my anything about them, and if you've seen anything like them before? I have more pics. Thank you in advance!

There are different types of stone that are called jade.
I don't think these are very old. 5, 10, 15 years. For some reason, I don't think old ones would be smiling, but I'm not an expert. I could be entirely wrong

    Dog looks like a papillon

lol a Papillion... never thought of dog breeds... thanks! The woman who gave them to me is in her late 50s, so I assumed they were older than that... You may be right, though!

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

I was gonna suppose them to be Foo Dogs, but... that Papillon is a ringer!

Good heavens! If you think 50 is old then many of us here are ancient. LOL:eek:

I know nothing, but they are very sweet looking.

I lightened the photos a bit.

lol what I meant was, she got them 30 years ago, so they're at least 30 years old. ;-)

    GaleriaGila Hola, y'all!

They do have the look of little carved stone critters findable in Mexico, current or very old.

Hi! It's actually red, like veins. And the tail, feet, and eyes seem to be hand-colored reddish.

Difficult to tell from the photos what the real coloration is, maybe soapstone?. Is the material hard or soft?

It's hard, and really heavy for the size. They've got a "waxy" feeling to them.
