    Hi, Bill, and welcome!

    dining room arm chair.JPG

Others will know far better than I, but to me, this looks like a dining room arm chair (for the head of the table, etc.)

The "furniture folks" will be along eventually to provide their input. I know they're going to want to see bigger, clearer photos - including some of the back and underside of the chair - so any additional pictures you can provide will be helpful.

    Hello and welcome.
If you go back to your post, click Edit, More Options, then next to the picture click
Full Image. People on phones will be able to see your photo.

It might help to get a picture closer to the chair looking straight on at it.

Looks a bit laid-back to be a dining chair but suppose it could be. I really think a 1940s occasional chair.

Spot on, Brad! Used to have one in the family. It had stretchers with holes of varying sizes, and guess who got to lie on her back and clean inside them with a rag soaked in furniture polish? (But not too wet, dear. We don't want any drips!)

Also known as (in my part of the country anyway) a Martha Washigton chair.

    Hi,
Have to agree with Silverthwait we always called them Martha Washington lounge chairs.

And another vote for Martha Washington. Pretty darn common design in the 30's and 40's.

1940s arm chair. I had one much like it. Tried to sell it for $20 in a garage sale with no interest. Finally had to give it away.
