Hi All, first post! Thanks ahead for taking a look and providing any info or ideas!

Picked this up over the weekend from the estate sale of a former Latin American diplomat and art/antiques collector. All I can tell is that it was potentially used as an furniture or architectural element? Wasn't able to get any other information.

Certainly looks South American. Meant to be viewed from both sides, but clearly a front and back. I'd think a ceiling beam decoration from a Spanish Colonial church but outside of my expertise.

I was given one of those axles back in the 1990s when helping with an Italian family estate liquidation in Denver. The op’s part looked familiar.

Does that size work for an axle part?

Figtree3 What would you do if you weren't afraid?

The first "1stdibs" link says the dimensions of that entire axle are
    Dimensions
    Height: 16 in. (40.64 cm)Width: 41 in. (104.14 cm)Depth: 14 in. (35.56 cm)

It appears the item that @jfo posted is about 17 inches, and would correspond with the depth measurement, based on the way that the complete one is fitted together. So it looks like it would fit.

An article on the Sicilian cart:

You can't see the axle very well here, but suffice it to say, the entire cart is decorated:

I have one of those pompoms that hang from the sides of the horse's head. The colours and small mirrors are meant to ward off evil. The bright colours on the cart could serve the same purpose. The angels could be there to prevent accidents?
