Help Identifying Armchairs?

Hi all--I wondered if anyone could help me determine if there's any value or significance to two armchairs I bought several years ago. The previous owner re-upholstered them (very badly), but the construction seems decent (bottom appears to be hand-tied springs). The wood is definitely a hardwood but not sure exactly what. There's no marking on them reflecting a maker.

Please let me know of any information or thoughts--I'm trying to decide whether to save them for reupholstering at some future time or get rid of them. Thanks to all!

Aquitaine Is What It IS! But NEVER BORED!

I'm guessing late-ish Victorian, but let's let @verybrad, @James Conrad and anyone else who would like to chime in have a look!!!! I can't believe anyone would call that "re-upholstered" unless they were just tacking the fabric on to see how it might look!!!!!! YIKES!!!!!:jawdrop::eek: However, the chairs themselves seem to be in decent condition!!!:):)

Ha, you are correct about the upholstery--I won't defend it!

They're very handsome and look sturdy. Hope you can find a place for them.

I don't have any expertise with furniture, but for some reason "Eastlake" popped into my head. After googling it, it seems it may fit.

Yes, walnut, last quarter of the 19th c. Nice chairs. . . one could clean up the upholstery by trimming & applying beading - the structure of the upholstering may be sound ?

These are transitional from Renaissance Revival to Eastlake ….. elements of both. Circa 1880.

If i saw them here, I'd say late 19th. Solid and worth redoing.

Agree on the ca. 1880 date. Nice walnut armchairs, no doubt part of a larger parlor set.
