Help identifying carved Chinese chest

    Hi. can anyone help in providing any information with regards to the wood or age of this chest. It’s large in size - 95x65x49 cm. I think it might be Chinese.

    Hello, Your chest is indeed Chinese and of very good quality. If the chest is rather dense and heavy, it is probably made from the type of wood known a Zitan aka Chinese rosewood.
    Difficult to date from your pictures, but if Hong Kong made could be ca. 1950+ however if produced in mainland China could be 1900 -1930 IMO.
    A lovely piece of furniture.

    it is very dense and very heavy so may well be Zitan, which would be nice. Do you have any clues on how I might go about pinning down a more accurate date? Unfortunately there doesn’t seem to be any markings or signatures to the piece. thanks again.
