I thought 'us of a.m.' meant it was made by a group of morning people, referring to themselves as 'us'.;)

I suspect something "Made in us of a.m." isn't.

Enlarged all I can read is Made in US of .

Its in English, the OP is in the US , the only other US I know of is Mexico.

Then you have to think about who uses Inches and the fact that the ruler has been defaced.

Ruller or Ruler, I'm sorry that what you have there is a Rule.

A Rule starts with the divisions in the edge. A ruler has the divisions a little way back from the edge.

A strange language, English. In common parlance the terms are interchangeable. I'm not sure I have ever had a ruler, though I used the term for years.

I think having periods in the AM is weird, but AM without them would not be weird. Something interesting is that if you search images.google.com for "made in us of am" (including the quotes), a large percentage of the hits are a variety of vintage rulers. Maybe a large manufacturer of rulers in the US used that specific terminology as a matter of course.
