Help identifying maker and period of silver enamel brooch (marked “MM 900”)

Hello everyone,


I recently acquired this beautiful silver brooch and I’m hoping someone can help identify the maker, time period, and the figure depicted.

• The brooch is marked “MM 900” on the back.
• The front features an enamel portrait of what seems to be a young noblewoman or possibly a historical figure. The background includes fleur-de-lis symbols, suggesting a French royal or aristocratic theme.
• The silver purity mark “900” usually indicates continental silver, and the style feels late 19th to early 20th century to me, possibly Art Nouveau or Belle Époque.

Has anyone seen a maker’s mark like “MM” before? Could this be from France, Austria, or another region?


Any insights into the identity of the person portrayed or the origin of the piece would be greatly appreciated!

Lovely enamel, and nicely mounted. The subject and enamel plate are French, she is Joan of Arc, ca 1900 imo.
The mark on the setting isn't French, so the plate was probably exported and mounted elsewhere, possibly in Austria.

Your Joan is prettier, and she has the doll face and rosy cheeks that were popular in the late 19th century and the very early years of the 20th.
